Umair Ahmed

Samsung is one of the most prominent smartphone players in the tech industry. Every year, Samsung launches its flagship S series. On 17th January 2023, Samsung unveiled its latest flagship phones, Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra. The predecessors of the S24 series were successful, but what’s new in the Samsung S24 series is explained here.

1. What’s New in S24 Series Design

The design schema of Samsung’s flagship S series is one of the best in the mobile market. S series phones are generally equipped with all the best available features in the market. Let’s explore the designs of all the launched flagship phones.

 a. Galaxy S24

Galaxy S24 is the base model of the launched series. It is also the smallest, with a display size of 6.2 inches. The display is Dynamic LTPO AMOLED, supporting a refresh rate of 120Hz and peak brightness of 2600 nits. The display supports 1080 x 2340 pixels and 446 ppi density.

Galaxy S24 is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, both front and back. The armoured Aluminum 2 frame further enhances its hardware profile. S24 weighs only 167g, which is on the lighter side when compared to other smartphones of the same category. S24 is protected from dust and water with an IP 68 rating.

b. S24 Plus

Galaxy S24+ offers all the features of Galaxy S24 except a few changes. The display of S24+ comes with a bigger display size of 6.7 inches. It supports more pixels than S24 (1440 x 3120) and higher ppi density (513). As the size of S24+ is bigger than S24, it carries some extra grams (197 g). Both come with an exceptional screen-to-body ratio of more than 90%.

c. S24 Ultra

S24 Ultra is the biggest model of the S24 series, with a display size of 6.8 inches. It is also the heaviest one with 232g weight and the thickest in the series with an 8.6 mm thickness. Build quality is strongest with a Titanium frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Armor protection. Other features are the same as S24+. However, the screen-to-body ratio is 88.5%, less than the other two models. All the models come with always-on-display feature.

2. What’s New in Software Platform and Chipset

Samsung is famous for its stable and user-friendly OS. The latest S series is also coming with the latest software platforms. Additionally, all models of the S series come with the latest chipsets.

Samsung has equipped all the models of the S series with the latest Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (4nm) flagship chipset. However, the international models of S24 and S24+ will be equipped with Exynox 2400 (4nm) chipset. All the models are powered with Adreno 750 (1GHz) GPU.

With the announcement of the latest S series, Samsung announced its latest Android 14-based OS, One UI 6.1. All the models are based on this software platform.

3. What Samsung S24 Camera Offers?

Samsung has been offering the industry’s best cameras for its flagship phones. The S23 series was featured among the best camera phones of 2023 in their category. The same thing is expected from the S24 series. Some of the main camera features of the S24 series are explained below.

a. S24 & S24+

S24 and S24+ come with a triple camera setup. The triple camera setup has a primary camera of 50 MP, supported by a 10 MP telephoto camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide (120°) camera. The camera module supports OIS (optical image stabilisation) for photos and videos. The camera setup can shoot 8k @ 24/30 fps and 4k @ 30/60 video. It supports super steady video recording and stereo sound recording. The main camera module offers 3x optical zoom.

Meanwhile, the selfie camera is 12 MP with an f/2.2 aperture. It supports dual video call, HDR10+, and video recording 4k @ 30/60 fps.

b. S24 Ultra

Like the predecessor S23 Ultra, the S24 Ultra also has a top-end camera module. It has a quad-camera setup, unlike the two lower-end models. The primary sensor has a 200 MP f/1.7 aperture, a 50 MP periscope telephoto sensor, a 10 MP telephoto sensor, and a 12 MP ultra-wide (120°) sensor. The primary camera module offers the same capacity for photography and videography as the S24 and S24+, only with a better zooming capacity of 5x optical zoom.

The Selfie camera is the same as the other two models but has a better processing capacity.

4. Battery and Charging

The Galaxy S series comes with different battery sizes and charging capacities. Tech experts have criticised this section, especially for its slower charging.

a. S24

The base model comes with a non-removable battery capacity of 4000 mAh, which is not competitive in the price segment. It supports PD 3.0 charging; however, the charging speed is also not competitive. S24 supports only 25 W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

b. S24+

S24+ comes with a bigger battery with a 4900 mAh capacity. It supports 45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5 reverse wireless charging. This model also supports PD 3.0 charging.

c. S24 Ultra

The only difference between S24+ and S24 Ulta is the bigger battery capacity of the S24 Ultra, which is 5000 mAh; all the other features are the same.

4. Sound

The stereo speakers with 32-bit 384 kHz audio provide an extraordinary audio experience that will please even the most sensitive audio enthusiasts. However, it’s worth noting that the 3.5 mm jack is missing in all the models, which might be a deal-breaker for some users who prefer to use wired headphones or external speakers. In this case, users must use Bluetooth headphones or invest in a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter to connect their favorite headphones or speakers. Despite this limitation, the models still offer exceptional sound quality that will impress.

5. Pricing

Pricing will not be discussed here because multiple platforms offer different pricing offers, so it is best recommended to search it before buying. For more, you can visit Samsung.

Bottom Line

Every year, Samsung launches its flagship S series in a three-model group. On Jan 17, Samsung announced its last flagship S24 series. The series has a base model S24, a mid-tier model S24+ and a top-end model S24 Ultra. The pricing (799 USD for the base variant of S24 and 1299 USD for a top-end variant of S24 Ultra) of these models shows that Samsung is aiming at middle and upper-class customers. Users have much variety available according to their needs and affordability.
